BCCI Prohibits Alcohol, Tobacco, and Betting: List of Banned Brand Categories for Indian Cricket Teams’ Title Sponsorship

The BCCI has invited bids for the principal sponsorship of the Indian squad, although certain corporations will be barred from participating in the bidding process as things stand.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a tender for the Indian team’s lead sponsor rights on Thursday. In a statement published on bcci.tv, the board requested proposals from reputable organisations to acquire the national team’s sponsor rights. On receipt of a non-refundable charge of Rs 5,00,000 + 90,000 GST, the terms and conditions will be made available.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) invited bids on Wednesday for title sponsors for Indian cricket teams (men, women, and age group teams). The BCCI’s deal with ed-tech company BYJU’S expired in the previous fiscal year, thereby leaving the Indian cricket teams without a title sponsor. The influence did not appear to be obvious in the World Test Championship final since teams are not permitted to wear the title sponsor on their chest in ICC tournaments. This can be done with either the right or left hand. In Australia’s case, the logo of their kit maker Asics was on the right arm, while the logo of their title sponsors – Qantas Airlines – was on the left arm. However, for India, they only had Adidas logo – their kit sponsor.

Once BCCI selects a new title sponsor, which starts with the notice shared by the board, that is likely to alter. According to an announcement from BCCI secretary Jay Shah, “The BCCI invites bids from reputable entities for acquiring the National Team Lead Sponsor rights.”

The BCCI also supplied payment information for both Indian and foreign organisations.

Even if they want to, not all organisations meeting the financial criteria can apply for title sponsorship of the Indian cricket teams. Certain entities are prohibited from applying by the board.

The BCCI has released a list of brand categories that are not permitted to apply for title sponsorship of Indian cricket teams.

The BCCI has prohibited the following brand categories:

(A) Athleisure and Sportswear Manufacturer;

(B) Alcohol Products;

(C) Betting;

(D) Cryptocurrency;

(E) Real Money Gaming (Except Fantasy Sports Gaming);

(F) Tobacco; and

(G) one which is likely to offend public morals such as, including but not limited to, pornography.

Following a loss to Australia in the World Cup final, India’s next assignment will be against the West Indies, where they will play two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is. The tour kicks off on July 12 with the Test series.
