In cricket, famous phrases like “That’s the last thing the batting team wanted” and “The batter was looking in such good touch that he could only get run out” have been used to describe runouts. A similar incident occurred in a Bangladesh Premier League 2022 game. Andre Russell, a hard-hitting all-rounder from West Indies, was the victim of one of the strangest cricket run-outs ever.
Russell, who was representing Minister Group Dhaka in the second BPL 2022 game against the Khulna Tigers, appeared to be in fine form throughout his brief time at the wicket. Russell took the pitch at 14.3 overs when Minister Group Dhaka was batting first.
How did Russell get out?
His first two shots were singles and a six at 14.5 over long-on. As he even picked up the slower ball from Thisara Perera and cleared his front leg to smash the ball for a maximum, he was looking in excellent touch after hitting a six over long-on.

Russell played a shot towards the third man in an attempt to run a quick single as he attempted to change strikes. Mahmudullah, his captain, was running towards the striker’s end. Mahmudullah was far within the crease when the fielder’s throw hit directly at the stumps of the striker’s end. After striking the stumps at the striker’s end, the ball took an odd turn and struck the stumps at the bowler’s end, where Russell was short. When the ball struck Russell’s side of the stumps, he wasn’t even jogging.
Minister Group Dhaka
Even though they reached 183 in 20 overs thanks to opener Mohammad Shahzad’s 27-ball 42-run knock and captain Mahmudullah’s 20-ball 39-run knock, the Minister Group Dhaka team ultimately lost the match. In retaliation, the Khulna Tigers got off to a fast start in their innings thanks to opener Andre Fletcher, who hit 45 runs in 23 balls and formed a strong partnership with Rony Talukdar for the second wicket. In 42 balls, Talukdar scored 61 runs. Perera put the finishing touches on the game, scoring 36 runs in 18 balls to give Khulna Tigers a victory with one over left.
One may argue that Minister Group Dhaka’s total could have surpassed 200 if Russell had not been run out at that point in the first innings.
