The upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) Final between India and Australia has piqued the interest and excitement of cricket fans all over the world. Unfortunately, several key Indian players will be missing from the much-anticipated clash due to injuries. From Jasprit Bumrah to Shreyas Iyer, a number of prominent Team India cricketers have been ruled out, putting the team’s prospects in jeopardy.
We take a closer look at five such players who will be sorely missed in the 2023 World Test Championship final against Australia.
1. Jaydev Unadkat
Jaydev Unadkat, the left-arm seamer, recently returned to the Indian team after a 12-year absence. He played in the second Test against Bangladesh in December 2022, as well as the February-March 2023 India-Australia Test series. On April 30, Unadkat suffered a shoulder injury while bowling in the nets. He then underwent scans in Mumbai and met with the BCCI’s medical staff. Regrettably, the 31-year-old has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 and is unlikely to recover in time for the World Tour Championship final. He is expected to begin his rehabilitation at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy.
2. Shreyas Iyer
In March 2023, Shreyas Iyer last participated in the fourth Test match between India and Australia. He did not bat, however, as a result of ongoing back problems that have bothered him all year. The 28-year-old initially chose not to have surgery and concentrated on recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Iyer would have back surgery in London the last week of April, according to a BCCI update published in April. Iyer will miss the WTC final because it will take him three months to fully recover from the successful surgery.
